LIVING HISTORY

What is Living History?

Living History is the teaching of history through recreation of the sights, sounds and feelings associated with the specific period. Sometimes called 're-enactment', it is a hobby undertaken by many people around the country, and the world, with people choosing a specific period(s) to represent.

Why do people do it?

People choose living history as a hobby for many reasons. Some have family connections to the military and choose to represent their own circumstances. Some do it for the incredibly social element and some do it as a way of passing on their knowledge to other people. Many Second World War Living-Historians start as militaria collectors and want to display their collection in a unique way that benefits themselves and others.

What does it involved?

Living History involves as much as the participants want it to - it is your hobby! There are many events during the year that vary in what they involve. Some are static displays which involve equipment displays and some discussion with members of the public. Others involve large-scale battle re-enactments using blank firing weapons and pyrotechnics.
